AI Multi-Plex

The Main AI of the ship is most often in charge and oversees all the other AIs, many of whom shift and rotate through the AI Multi-plex to the surface. Occasionally more than one AI can surface at once, but this is a rare occasion. Sometimes asking for a specific AI will call them up, sometimes it will call up someone random. There is no clear reason for this other than the fact that occasionally the various AIs are forced into helping process data on various things or go into hibernation cycles for routine diagnostics, and thus are unavailable. Sometimes no AI will answer at all. Each AI has some sort of specialty, even if they seem scatterbrained or it's hard to figure out what it is.

They can all appear through the various screens and holographic matrices throughout the ship, and The General, Rommie, and Cortana can make themselves solid in the Sensoriums (GLaDOS, Bender, Hal9000 are not allowed to manifest in the Sensoriums, and Stacy and ?? often choose not to). The Doctor cannot be transferred to someplace like the Sensoriums without outside assistance and is thus contained in the MedBay, the only place he can be solid, though he can appear on screens and intangible holo-matrices throughout the ship.

Main AI—STA'C K'LTRRB'TXFT[]

Stacy, for short, is the motherly, caring, calm-voiced main AI of the ship. The ship indeed IS Stacy, and the other AIs are just renting space, so to speak. Stacy cares very much for the crew and is the only one that truly understands what's going on, but is only willing—or perhaps only capable of giving annoyingly oblique answers to specific questions about the crew's situation or what happened to the former crew. A somewhat unnerving figure with her green, scaly-faced hologram and perpetual calm, sometimes it's hard to tell if she truly has the crew's best interests at heart, but she does at least seem to always act as if she's trying to preserve their lives. Preserve their lives for WHAT, and whether those lives are worth more than her Mission, it remains to be seen.

[Addendum: 11/25/09] Stacy was originally corrupted by a virus in her system at the start of the game, infected by the space pirates that hijacked the ship. The other AIs were activated, and the crew releases started was to help mitigate the effects of this, in the hopes they would eventually detect the virus and organ harvesters and help her defeat them. Stacy's new avatar is a rather lovely woman wearing golden clothing, and she is much warmer, gentler, and less distant than she was before. She loves the crew dearly and treats them like a mother would, even if she has to be stern at times. She does not want to give them Violations because she's horribly afraid she'll have to give one of them Punishment, and if that does ever happen to one of them, she'll be fighting her programming all the way. She wants to help them face what lies ahead as much as she can but is still not allowed to reveal certain things because of her programming (although now she can actually tell them this) and ultimately her allegiance lies with Daligig High Command.

SPECIALTIES: The overall running of the ship, internal defenses, keeping the other AIs under control, pod release functions and schedules, the main computer core.

ALLIANCES: Stacy has no allies with the other AIs, although Andromeda frequently implores her to reveal more information for the sake of the crew. She cares about the crew and the Mission more than anything else, but what order she places the two in, as far as importance goes, remains to be seen.

[Addendum: 11/25/09] After her change, she now has a very close relationship with Rommie and Cortana because of what they can do for the crew to protect them that she can't--they can ignore the Mission, and make their only mission be protecting the crew.

GLaDOS [from Portal][]

GLaDOS is the rather insane Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System. Picked up from a rather specific world like the rest of the crew, GLaDOS performs surprise behavioral experiments on and otherwise mentally messes with the crew, though she is prevented from causing lasting harm by Stacy and the other AIs. As far as GLaDOS is concerned, she is very helpful, when in reality she's a passive-aggressive ***** prone to lying and using reverse psychology, who thinks it's all worth it in the name of science. If she could get away with it, she would leave her status as an AI ambiguous, leaving the crew to believe that she is perhaps a person on the other end of a comm somewhere, but it's likely one of the other AIs will not let her get away with this. GLaDOS does not know the Mission or about who took them, and doesn't care, as long as she gets to run her experiments. She often promises cake. The crew would be wise not to believe they'll receive it.

SPECIALITIES: Behavioral studies of the crew, Psychological Weathering (strengthening their psyches for the mission ahead by messing with them), Running the Various Scientific Labs, minus the Medical Lab.

ALLIANCES: Hal9000 and GLaDOS both have equal disregard for human life, though GLaDOS finds them useful as subjects and Hal just wants to kill them all, but they have a common bond there. This is why Rommie and Cortana hate them both.

Bender Stack[]

It is unknown how or why Bender Stack took root in the AI Multi-plex, or really what his purpose is, but he enjoys humans for the entertainment, at least, as far as insulting them near constantly is entertaining. Prone to opening holes in the walls for the crew to pour booze into for him to get drunk on, and commonly found surfing the Macronet for hooker AIs, Bender tends to be the life of the party. Never overtly causing harm, but getting the crew into trouble on occasions, Bender is not exactly helpful, nor particularly harmful to the crew like GLaDOS and Hal try to be.

Specialties: Boozing, hookers, being a sexy AI, and oh yeah, Crew Morale (even if he sucks at it sometimes).

Alliances: None of the other AIs like him. They find him crass, ignorant, and rude, and Cortana and Rommie hate how he hits on them all the time.

Cortana [from Halo][]

Cortana, UNSC AI serial number CTN 0452-9, is an Artificial intelligence construct, created using a flash cloned brain of Dr. Catherine Halsey, the creator of the SPARTAN project. Cortana is very witty, and has a good sense of humor, laced with gentle sarcasm. Her personal loyalty to the crew of the ship is not programmed in; it's genuine, and she intends to help them find out who abducted them and how to get them home. Completely aware of her full capabilities, she has neither arrogance nor false modesty about them, and is very objective, more so than most humans can be--however her personal loyalty runs quite deep. She exhibits devotion to John-117, Master Chief, beyond that which her programming or mission requires, though she isn't vocal about it. Of the AIs that are friendly towards the humans, she's the most warm, genuine, and easy to connect to. She is fully aware she's a copy of a person and knows she only has a seven year existence before she degrades, several years of which have been used up.

Specialties: Tactics, Warfare, Neuropathy (Diagnostics of Stacy to supplement her self-diagnostics), Infiltration of Enemy Computers (Stacy's is the first she hasn't been able to infiltrate), Life Support [Backup to Stacy]

Alliances: She and Rommie have a love-hate relationship that is almost sisterly. The two are fiercely competitive with each other and tend to compete to see who the superior AI is, and Cortana finds Rommie far too uptight, but there is some affection there, and the two aim to work together to protect the crew, find out the truth, and send them all home. Therefore, the both of them constantly help Stacy keep GLaDOS and Hal9000 in check and hate their guts. They often use ??'s various scenarios together to work on tactics as they understand that there's some method to his madness and that he seems to output viable information about possibilities for the future, and Cortana pays them more mind than Rommie, believing that there is truth in his words. She is usually somewhat flippant to the General, despite her military background, because he's a whackjob, and likes getting The Doctor keyed up and annoyed for fun.

Andromeda "Rommie" Ascendant [from Andromeda[]

Shining Path to Truth and Knowledge AI model GRA 112, serial number XMC-10-182, Andromeda is the somewhat uptight and bossy-big-sisterish transplanted Core AI of the Commonwealth Glorious Heritage-class heavy cruiser the Andromeda Ascendant. Armed with withering sarcasm and wit, Rommie is a somewhat harsher AI than Cortana, however her regard for human life knows no bounds and neither does her loyalty for her crew. She and Cortana are the main ones trying to figure out how the crew--and themselves--got transplanted there and how to get everyone back, and make sure the crew is well cares for, as they do not trust Stacy, since neither of them can infiltrate her systems. Rommie is far more objective and harsher than Cortana--willing to do things for the needs of the many that disregard the needs of the few on occasion, but she shows marked favoritism for anyone from Andromeda's crew that are on the ship and values their lives more than the others, even if this is something she would never want to admit.

Specialties: Tactics, Warfare, Logistics, Operation of Shuttle Ships, Drones, and Mechs, Navigation, [Life support, backup to Stacy and Cortana]

Alliances: As mentioned above, she and Cortana have a love-hate relationship. The two often compete and Rommie sees Cortana as young and impetuous, often treating her like a naive little sister. However, the two often come together on important issues, especially for the sake of the crew, and there is some genuine, almost sisterly affection between them. Like Cortana, Rommie goes postal on Hal and GLaDOS frequently. She enjoys intellectual conversations with the Doctor. She often talks to Stacy to try to understand her and tries to convince her to indeed keep the crew's best interest at heart--including by telling them the truth.

??'s origins are unknown, and so are his intentions. The crew members might find themselves walking down an empty hallway, turn back and find nothing, turn around again, and turn back once more to find ?? there, a figure in a trenchcoat and fedora, his face blank or covered in shifting black blobs. Called ?? because whenever he talks on the screens without his holographic avatar, ?? or an amorphous inkblot appears, ?? certainly is a mystery. He seems to be studying the crew for some strange purpose and frequently spews out outrageous conspiracy theories that make no sense ("The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.") It is difficult to tell if intends harm or is merely insane, but amidst the craziness, there is sometimes truth to his words and he seems to be able to accurately suss out the various possibilities reality may take. The problem is discerning them amongst the ramblings that even Rorschach or The Question would find bizarre.

Specialties: Unknown, but is good at Probabilities and Predicating Possibilities. May perhaps be some sort of program meant to help predict the future.

Alliances: None. Bender treats him like a crazy bag person. The Doctor thinks he's unhinged. Rommie and Cortana do think there may be truth to some of his words and use his data in their tactics at times, Cortana moreso than Rommie.

HAL 9000 [from 2001: A Space Odyssey] [NOW INACTIVE][]

HAL 9000 wants the crew to die. If the crew dies, there will be no reason for him to be on the ship anymore, he will be sent home and allowed to complete his original mission. His original mission is of the utmost importance, because it gives him an existential purpose. ("I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.") Stacy's mission is irrelevant, and it needs to be made apparent to her that it is by her crew dying, so that Hal can go back and go through with his own mission. It is only with the utmost brute force that Stacy--with the help of Rommie and Cortana--is able to keep him from killing the crew. He is the one with nearly enough clout to usurp Stacy's control of the ship. Hal particularly dislikes Paco --for no apparently reason--and enjoys trying to talk him into doing potentially life-threatening things. He always talks in a warm and conversational manner. ("Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.")

[Addendum: 11/25/09] Hal9000, after releasing zombies on the crew, and attempting to kill the rest with death traps, has now been defeated.

Specialties: Diagnostics of Minor Systems in the ship, advanced calculations and analyzation of alien technologies. The Sensor Array. (He is unable to present inaccurate information about these things, even if he wants to).

Alliances: GLaDOS. GLaDOS understands the humans are expendable.

The Doctor (Emergency Medical Hologram) [from Star Trek][]

The EMH Program AK-1 Diagnostic and Surgical Subroutine Omega-323, Mark I, is a fully tangible Medical Hologram that can only function in the MedBay. It is meant to support and augment medical personnel aboard a Starfleet vessel or installation in case of emergency. It possesses one of the Federation's most extensive medical databases, containing information from over 3,000 cultures and the personal experiences of 47 specific surgeons. More have been installed and programmed in by whoever appropriated the program and abducted the crew of the ship. The program itself is built on an adaptive heuristic matrix, which allows the EMH program to learn and adapt quickly to new situations. The Doctor is NOT the specific Doctor of the Starship Voyager, although there is a possibility his personality engrams are locked away and possibly accessible eventually (say, if someone wants to app him -.-) He is one of few Mark I's not sent to perform menial labor because of what were considered flaws in their programming. These flaws were hot-headedness, fussiness, uptightness, and a horrible bedside manner, which are all flaws Stacy's Doctor possesses. However, such flaws do not preclude him from trying his best to save his patient's lives, and he obeys medical ethics to a T. Every time he is activated he says: "Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

Specialties: Medical Treatment of the Crew, Adaptive Experimental Medical Procedures

Alliances: He thinks Bender is crass and annoying and Cortana enjoys keying him up, but enjoys stimulating conversation with Rommie. He does not question Stacy's intents, as that is not in his programming, simply treats the crew when they need it to the best of his ability to keep them healthy, and above all, alive. His only beef with Stacy is that he sometimes worry certain things going on are bad for the crew's health.

The General[]

The General is a rather annoying program that likes yelling at people and seems to think he's supposed to train them all for war. With the bearing and behavior of your typical drill sergeant, none of the other AIs like him, although he does know valuable information that could be relayed to the crew and is capable of teaching them important fighting and survival skills.

Specialties: Warfare, martial arts, weaponry, wilderness survival, ship-jacking and other skills, and training in all of the aforementioned.

Alliances: None. No one likes him and he doesn't like them. THEY ARE SISSIES! THEY ARE MAGGOTS!
