Luke Skywalker is the son of fallen Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Naboo Senator Padme Amidala. He was raised on the desert planet of Tatooine by his aunt and uncle and hidden from his father and the Emperor of the Galactic Republic until he made the choice to become a Jedi at age 19. This led him to follow Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi off Tatooine, and eventually led him to meet Han Solo, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, and after he destroyed the first Death Star at the Battle of Yavin, he joined the Rebel Alliance.

Luke was instrumental in many battles in the Galactic Civil War, but after the Rebel base on Hoth was overrun by the Imperials he went to study under Jedi Master Yoda on the swamp planet of Dagobah. A vision of his friends in trouble on Bespin drove him to Cloud City, where he lost his right hand in a duel with his father, now known as Darth Vader. After many other missions on behalf of the Alliance, and the death of the Emperor and his father at the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star, he continued to help mop up the last remnants of the Empire in the galaxy.

Eleven years after the Battle of Yavin (11 ABY) he founded the New Jedi Order and began taking on students at a praxeum he established on Yavin IV. In 19 ABY, he married fellow Jedi Mara Jade.

In 25 ABY, the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy and the Yuuzhan Vong War broke out. In 29 ABY they were defeated, in part due to Skywalker and his Jedi. During the war, Mara Jade gave birth to a son, who she and Luke named Ben after Luke's mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Republic was reshaped into the Galactic Alliance, and Luke continued to concern himself with the Jedi's role in government and their view of the Force that had been adopted after the Vong invasion; eventually he realized that the Jedi needed a firm leader and adopted the title of Grandmaster to give some cohesion. In 40 ABY, civil war broke out again between the GA and Corellia, and a series of events led Jacen Solo, Luke's nephew and the unofficial mentor of Luke's son, to fall to the Dark Side and kill Luke's wife in his rise to power as a Sith Lord named Darth Caedus. With Luke's help, Caedus was defeated at the hands of his twin sister Jaina, and peace was restored to the galaxy. In the aftermath of the war, Natasi Daala ascended to the position of Chief of State and fostered a wide spread anti-Jedi sentiment resulting in tensions between the Jedi Order and her government.

Personality[]

When he was young, Luke was impulsive, mind always on what he was doing rather than on the consequences of his actions. Now, after gaining mastery over the Force (not to mention years of growing up in between nineteen and sixtysomething), Luke has a serenity and calm about him, even in the heat of battle, that lends him focus. In a strange situation, while others around him might be freaking out, Luke will do his best to remain calm and think through the problem, or let the Force guide him to whatever it wills. This passivity can come across as ineffectiveness if taken too far, which occasionally it does--and at one point, it led to unrest within the Order. These things sow doubt in Luke's mind, an uncertainty about his place in the Force that has persisted since his time as a Dark Jedi apprentice under the Emperor reborn, and a struggle with his leadership ability for the Order and the world at large that crops up from time to time.

Luke is very loyal to those he loves, whether they are friend or family, and will do anything to help them out if he can. This is one unshakable conviction, despite that it has been tested over and over from when Vader first tried tempting Luke to join the dark side up until Luke saw himself seated on Caedus' throne as a Sith. His compassion and loyalty have earned him many friends and will continue to earn him many more. He is a good, honorable man with a strong sense of empathy for the downtrodden. While he can seem disconnected at times due to being a Jedi Master, he has seen what dismissing the emotional part of someone can do (and what it did to his parents) and has realized the importance of one's emotions, and thus instructs young Jedi to acknowledge their feelings but not let their feelings rule their actions.

Game History and Notable Crewmates[]

When Luke arrived on the ship, he was the only one from his world. His easygoing nature made him fast friends, though, and one of the first was Arha Masaari, a Bene Gesserit. He found her intriguing and very much like him, and the two became very close quickly. He met her fellow Bene Gesserit sister Sheeana Brugh, who often made him feel very bashful, and their sandworms, which he found fascinating. For a time, they seemed to get even closer, almost to the point of becoming an item, but circumstances ended up making them agree to just be friends. Luke was a juror in the Yeerk trial, lending his expertise in ethical matters to the mix of opinions found in that group. The podpop after his brought in his very first master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and his father, Anakin Skywalker--and then the fight for the Yeerk began, and Luke joined in the fray. It was during that that he revealed to Anakin that the other was his father. The two are still awkward around each other, but hopefully this will ease soon. Luke would like to get to know his father better--to know the man that was Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, instead of the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader.

The following podpop brought Luke his wife, Mara Jade--only she wasn't yet his wife. She was from just before the mission that would bring them to that point. It was difficult at first for Luke, because in his time Mara had been killed, but he was able to adapt (a Jedi is nothing if not flexible, right?) and took great joy in the mere fact that she was alive in the first place. He got a chance to work on his bonds with her during the Big Reveal plot; Luke and Mara, both having skills useful to an infiltration kind of mission, went with Team GTFO to try and take back the bridge from whatever was holding it captive. Before they left, Luke was presented with a crysknife by Arha; he wears it on his belt to this day, and indeed feels naked without it. While the assault was underway, Luke fought hard to help out the ship he'd come to call home. The Reveal, and the battles leading up to it, left Luke exhausted both mentally and physically--the galaxy he'd called home was gone, destroyed by the Ohm. Perhaps it was fitting then that this event was what helped he and Mara get closer. They took up quarters together, and eventually one of them moved into the other's bed and now they often find themselves quite comfortably curled up together.

Luke and Obi-Wan also addressed the odd mismatch between Luke's hero-worship of Obi-Wan as his first mentor, and Obi-Wan's respect of Luke's outranking him. This helped ease some of the tension between them greatly.

The following podpop brought in a figure out of legend for Luke: Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan's master. It was around this time that Luke started having the occasional nightmare, but he wrote them off as stress. He also joined the Magical Department at Nanoha's request.

After that, an old friend of Luke's from his days in Rogue Squadron arrived. Wedge Antilles and Luke flew in the Rebellion together, so it was only fitting that when Wedge discovered enough X-Wings in Stacy's hangar to outfit a squadron with, Luke joined up and recruited Mara as well. He decided to leave the commanding to Wedge, though! In fact, having his friends around and something to do brought Luke great joy, as recently his nightmares had been getting worse and worse, causing him to occasionally even wake up with his lightsaber in his hand, and the preposterous idea in his mind that Mara was a Yuuzhan Vong imposter in an ooglith masquer who was trying to kill him. When Nanoha asked her Magical Department members to help reach out to the crew and get them to shore up their mental defenses, Luke called a meeting of the Jedi on board the ship and asked them to help him do this. Who better to teach this kind of thing, or come up with excellent ideas, than a Jedi?

After Wedge came Jaina Solo and Jacen Solo, Luke's twin niece and nephew, as well as their (future) father Han Solo, and his Wookiee friend Chewbacca. Luke's very glad to see they're all okay. He's also met and talked to Katara and Tess Lee, who are now Bene Gesserit as well. The same podpop brought in Grace Anderson, a xenobiologist.

Last but certainly not least is Steve Burnside, the young man who's become something of a son to Luke. It's only coincidence that Steve is, like Luke's own son, a redhead and in his teens, Luke isn't using him as a replacement for Ben. Steve popped at the same time as Luke, and at that time Luke noted the despair and anger emanating from the young man in waves. Some time later they met again and talked for a while, and Luke has since taken Steve under his wing and helped him through several difficult periods. Luke believes in Steve, and loves him like he was family, and is incredibly proud of how far Steve's come.
